​Ancient City of Aigaia

Aigai Ancient City is an ancient city located in Yunusemre district of Manisa Province. Aigai, M.D. 3. it is a Lydian city that was founded in the century. The city was founded around the Paktolos River and served as the capital of the Lydian Kingdom.The Ancient City of Aigai has shown a great development during the Hellenistic period. The buildings in the city exhibit the most beautiful examples of Hellenistic period architecture. The most important structure of the city is the Tumuli, which are the royal tombs of the Lydian Kingdom. These tumuli are known as the monumental tombs where the Lydian Kings were buried.

The Ancient City of Aigai is also home to a historical theater. This theater dates from the Lydian period and M.D. 2. it was rebuilt during the Roman period in the century. The theater is a fairly large building with a capacity of 13 thousand people.The Ancient City of Aigai was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012. The city is open to tourists today with archaeological excavations and restoration works. Visitors can tour the ruins of the ancient city and experience the historical atmosphere.
