​The Ancient City of Pessinus

​Pessinus was a city located in the Phrygia region in ancient times. Today, it is located within the boundaries of the village of Ballihisar, located in the Sivrihisar district of Eskişehir province of Turkey.Pessinus, M.D. 3. it was captured by the Galata in the century and became an important religious center. There was a large temple dedicated to the mother goddess Kybele in the city. This temple was considered one of the most important centers of the Kybele cult.Pessinus also maintained its importance during the Roman Empire, and the cult of Cybele still continued. The temple in the city was greatly renovated during the reign of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.Pessinus also retained its importance during the Byzantine Empire, but by the 12th century. it was captured by the Seljuk Turks in the century. The city later came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire.Today, the ruins of Pessinus are open to visitors in the village of Ballyhisar. Among the ruins of the city are the temple foundations, columns and the ruins of a basilica. Dec. Pessinus attracts the attention of many tourists with its historical and archaeological importance.
